The Battle of Thull Mardu took place when Princess Ce'Nedra's army came between the Murgo forces of Taur Urgas and the Mallorean invaders at the city of Thull Mardu. The purpose of the battle was largely a distraction to let Belgarion and his companions infiltrate Mallorea and battle Torak. Another chief goal was the placement in the river Mardu of Cherek warships to decimate the Mallorean navy.

The Western armies were able to take Thull Mardu in front of Mallorean and Murgo forces. Unbeknownst to the Western armies, the Murgo and Mallorean forces were set to clash -- and the Western forces became sandwiched in between the two forces.

During the battle Polgara, Durnik, and Ce'Nedra were captured by Zakath and taken to Cthol Mishrak. The battle resulted in the Western Army retreating from Thull Mardu, with Nadrak assistance, and the Cherek navy being set out to sea.
